Monsoon is also based on a silkscreened scarf designed by Sonnhild Kestler for her label S.K. Hand-Druck. The pattern was developed in reference to a vintage photograph of the sky. An arrangement of granular stripes gently transitions in width and tone, mimicking the blended, painterly effect of the silkscreen process. Monsoon’s pattern was meticulously translated by the Maharam Design Studio to a dense construction allowing greater color detail and a closer replication of the original scarf’s nuanced texture. Monsoon relates to an earlier Kestler pattern, Painted Stripe (2009), but incorporates more color and complexity.
