The idea for Colorwheel came to Jongerius when she was experimenting with glazes for her Colored Vase series. To explore different combinations, she applied various colors around the rims of white plates and then fired them in the kiln. The resulting color wheels became the motif in this textile.
Hella Jongerius is a renowned Dutch industrial designer known for her inventive approach to products. Jongerius’s perspective on sustainability in design is that it should be built to last. She has an issue with ephemeral, low-quality objects put out into the world.
